How Does Online Customer Growth Work

Do you know what’s the most important aspect of your business?

Whether you’re selling products or services?

Yes, of course. It’s your customers or clients.

Now this’s almost always overlooked, because every business owner starting out, will focus solely on what product or service they want to sell.

They completely forget about what their customers want.

One of my students told me that she wanted to be a makeup artist.

She loved doing makeovers on woman and transforming them into this radiant beam.

She adored makeup products and knew everything she possibly could about skincare, the different face shapes and skin tones.

What to do and what not to do.

How to contour and how to make your eyes come alive.

If you wanted the perfect brows, she was the girl for you.

She did it all.

And every time she completed a client’s makeover, they always said: “I wish I could do it like you did….”

Now Marie took this as a huge complement, but also failed to see an element of what her clients really wanted.

Marie and I sat down and when she told me this, I knew she was on the verge of having a dramatic change in her business.

It was during our first coaching session that Marie realised, even though her clients loved having her do their makeup, they also wished they could do it themselves.

So the only way to help them, was to teach them.

Marie got so fired up about the idea that she decided to build her own online course and teach her clients how to do their own makeup.

But after a few months, she decided to extend her target market and reach out internationally.

Together, Marie & I worked on an automated system, which would generate traffic for her online makeup course, 24/7.

Excluding her existing clients, Marie went from 0 – 700 customers in 8 weeks.

And that’s what today’s episode is all about.

We’re going to talk about the 3 Stages we used for Marie, to have Online Customer Growth.

How Does Online Customer Growth Work

You see, in most cases I understand that you can get frustrated, overwhelmed and stressed out about the fact, that you’ve constantly gotta go out there and find new customers or clients.

And you only have 24 hours in a day, so running around trying to find anybody who’s willing to buy your product or service is a waste of valuable time & energy.

If you want to reach a broader audience, the best way to do it is online.

Once you’ve got this automated system in place, you can finally take a sigh of relief and start concentrating on the bigger picture of your business.

You can actually start to make the changes required, for you to work on your business and not in it.

You’ll finally be able to have what you’ve always wanted – and that’s to have your time back.

You can finally be a mother again, a sister, wife and friend.

You don’t have to be the one hiding anymore behind your laptop all day, working your booty off for what feels like a never-ending story.

So, there is hope and I’m going to share with you the 3 Stages to Online Customer Growth.

Stage 1 – Setting up your automated system.

Your automated system is about ONE thing only.

And that’s to build your Email List.

If you’ve never heard about an email list before, I’ll explain.

Your email List is a list of all the contacts you have of potential customers or buying customers.

This email List is your business asset. If you don’t have a list of contacts, your business isn’t of any value.

Doesn’t matter in what industry or niche you’re operating in. Your business email list is absolute key.

Now, you might say: “But Hen, I’ve got a great following on Instagram & Facebook…”

And that’s great, but you have to understand that Social Media platforms are not yours. You don’t own those platforms.

In addition, they use algorithms that they can change at any point, meaning your posts are not always seen by all your followers.

In comparison, your email list is solely yours and you have complete control over it.

Building your email list with a constant flow of potential customers is an absolute must.

So, how do you setup your automated system to build your email list?

Well, you need three important ingredients for your automated system to capture that traffic.

  1. Your Landing Page or Opt-in Form

This is basically a stand-alone page, that you can use to get someone’s email address & name, in exchange for an incentive.

And the best part, you can set this up all by yourself, without hiring an expensive web designer.

And you don’t even need a website for this.

  1. The second thing you’ll need is an Email Platform

This is not like Hotmail or Gmail….

This is a platform which can capture the names & email addresses of those people opting in, all automatically without you having to do the work.

Now the other great thing about an automated email Platform, is that you can setup your own emails, to go out automatically to these people that have opted in.

  1. The last thing you need is the digital incentive. Or otherwise known as the freebie.

A great example is the Online Customer Growth Blueprint I’m going to give you at the end of this episode.

All of these can so easily be setup and if you want to know how, I suggest you download my Online Customer Growth Blueprint.

Stage 2 – Online Traffic

We’re diving head first into the online traffic.

Specifically, what you need to do, to get that traffic coming to your landing page or opt-in form.

There are a few things you need to know about the online world.

1.Firstly, if you’ve setup your website and blog, thinking that people will now start running to you….

You’re making a bit of a mistakes.

This is merely due to the fact that there are about 380 websites & blog being created every minute online.

So if you’re one of them… this leads to the second issue.

2. There are about 4.388 billion internet users as of Jan 2019 and still climbing.

All this means is that the internet is so overcrowded.

So, if you’re waiting for your audience to find you, you’ll wait for some time.

3. Then lastly, you also have to understand that your product or service is not for everyone.

And I mean this sincerely. People go through different stages in their lives and have different views and life experiences.

So your product or service will only be for those that need it the most.

Once you understand this, then we can move onto finding out what you need to do to get noticed in this overcrowding online world and where to find your audience.

Starting with your Website or blog.

One of the important things to consider is always giving new & consistent content.

It doesn’t have to be daily, but at least once a week put new content on your blog or a new article on your website.

I continuously have new podcast episodes or blog posts going out weekly.

Providing great content through my blogs & podcasts and giving digital incentives or freebies, really work for online traffic.

As an example, I’ve got a great blog on How to Create an Online Course.

Inside the blog I’ve given the reader the Option, to download my Online Course Planner

Through my new content & freebies provided, more people will sign up and get added to my email list.

The same principal can be applied to all your social media content.

Always make sure that you have a call to action at the end of your social media posts.

There you can take people to sign up for whatever freebie you have on offer.

Another thing you can consider to get more traffic, is to collaborate with other entrepreneurs or business owners in similar niches or industries as you.

An example of this would be the entrepreneurial success podcast.

I’m interviewing other female entrepreneurs where they can tell their success stories and also share amazing & valuable content.

Here’s a podcast episode I did with Alma Bradford recently.

You can listen to this podcast also in Episode 21: How to build an audience on social media.

Also, think about getting featured on other blogs, magazines, podcasts or websites.

This is a great way for you to be seen as a person with authority in your field and get recognised for what you do.

Now, I do feel that I want to put a little word of warning here.

Because even though there are great ways to get visibility for you and your business and to get the traffic coming to you…

There are also so many ways to get overwhelmed and not do anything.

My suggestion is to choose only 1 or 2 ways to get more traffic coming to your website or landing page.

And then to be consistent and just repeat it over and over again.

Don’t feel that you have to go and do everything.

Because you won’t have the time to do everything and won’t see any results, because you’ll be too scattered and inconsistent.

So just choose 1 or 2 ways to get traffic and stick with it.

Stage 3 – Customer Relationships

Now this stage is absolutely crucial for any business.

As you’ve got traffic coming to you and you’re capturing them on your email list, now the hard work starts to communicate with your potential customers.

I mean, let’s face it – at the end of the day you want to help your potential customers and to do this, convert them into buying customers.

So in an essence, stage three is all about customer relationships.

Now how do you communicate effectively with your audience?

Well, the best way is through copy.

And if you don’t know what copy is, it’s basically the way you write your content, using your own words to connect with your audience on your email list.

Tell me, if this has happened to you before?

When it comes to writing something as simple as an email, do you struggle with a few mental blocks?

Say for instance, you’ve got this idea about what you want to write, then as soon as you start writing, the words just don’t come out right…

It’s all over the place and looks like you took all the words, put it in a shaker and through it out.

Or another mental block could be that it takes forever for you to write something.

Writing one paragraph took you 45 minutes already.

Now, it could also be that you’ve got this fear of writing anything.

Maybe you’re worried about what people would think of you when they read your email or blog.

And I completely understand that.

It’s scary putting your content or email out there, wondering what your audience will think or hoping they’ll engage with you.

However, once you learn how to write great copy, the benefits will be huge

As an example:

  1. You’ll be able to connect with your audience where they can relate, with your email or content.
  2. They’ll absolutely fall in love with what you do & who you are.
  3. Your audience will actually want what you sell, because they’ll trust you to take that next step and buy your product or service.

Writing copy is something that you can learn.

Nobody’s born with it.

It only takes practise and by applying some easy to follow tips, you can become a great copy writer.

Who can connect with your audience and make more authentic sales, without begging.

So, if you’re interested and want to learn more about copy writing, then just leave me a reply below this podcast episode and I’ll get straight back to you.
